every day is friday
thought i’d do a fun little project in honor of today, friday, the king day of the week.
this past year, my son’s preschool class learned all the color songs, and the days of the week songs. so in an effort to encourage this new knowledge, i decided to make some days of the week signs for his door.

Here's his door
we’ll talk about those little guys up top another day.

Door close-up
so anyway, at the bottom you can see the little pocket with the days of the week, the “today is” sign and the spot for the current day’s sign (pay no attention to that dirty hand smudge on the door.)

Days of the week
the original plan was to get him to change the day of the week sign every morning before school, to incorporate some learning into the home environment. and at first he was excited to change it, and played along while we looked through the days to find the right one. then one day he decided it should be friday when it was wednesday, and he refused to change it. and my ocd kicked in, and i was all “but it’s wednesday. we can’t have friday up there!”, then i remembered oh yea, he’s just three. and really, don’t you want everyday to be a friday too? so back to the project.
what you need for this project:
days of the week templates (at the end of the post)
1 sheet of construction paper
scissors
stapler
velcro sticky-back squares, both hook and fuzzy type (available at hobby lobby and walmart in the fabric department)
**you will probably want to laminate the signs for durability. i happen to have a ezlaminator by xyron i inheritaed from a previous job, available at hobby lobby or michaels. but you can go to fedex kinko’s and laminate an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper for $1.99)**

for the pocket that holds the signs: take your piece of construction paper and cut it in half longways, so you have a sheet of paper measuring roughly 4.25 x 11 inches. fold up the bottom third of the paper, about three inches from the top. get your stapler, and starting at the bottom fold staple up both sides, as close to the edge as you can get. now you have your little pocket.

now you’ll need to print out the templates. i simply opened a microsoft publisher document and searched for days of the week in the clip art, and i came up with these. very cute and super colorful!

once you have printed them, you can choose to laminate them or not. laminating them will make them more durable, but it is just an option.take two of the hook velcro squares and stick them to the matching fuzzy squares, and stick them to the top and bottom of the pocket. stick it to the door, bulletin board, wherever you want it. a caution though, if and when you decide to remove the velcro, paint might come with it!

do the same thing for the “today is” sign and any one of the day sign, positioning “today is” above the day sign. depending on whether you put the fuzzy or the hook velcro on the door, you will need to put a square of the matching velcro on the center of each of your day signs so you can change them out.
voila! you are done. i hope you enjoy it! let me know of any other similar projects you’ve done, and i’ll let our fellow readers know. after all, why keep all the good ideas to your self! have a great one-
