Here’s a few of my tried-and-true recipes, and a new one I just saw today on TV.

I made these for a scrapbooking get together in October, when the fall chill was first in the air. They are called Big Soft Ginger cookies, and I found the recipe on Allrecipes.com, a wonderful site that has great recipes for everything. They smell DIVINE and taste wonderful.

Let’s Be Real, People

Go here to read a post from fellow craft blogger A Commonplace Life who is fed up with trying to do it all and feeling the need to appear perfect to the blogging community. Much of the post is centered around Martha Stewart who, with her hordes of assistants and editors that execute her ideas, is the epitome of domestic perfection that millions of women blindly follow.

Don’t get me wrong, I do love Martha and her ideas. It’s just when I read this on the afforementioned blog post I became very self aware of what I was doing to myself:

“I won’t be a party to furthering some unattainable, unrealistic, insulting and frankly dangerous picture of perfection. Women have come too far for us to be bamboozled by the likes of Martha Stewart. So you think you can have it all? Your pantry perfectly organized and your linens smelling like citrus while your children play neatly in their Pottery Barn decorated playroom? Bread baking in the oven and hand knitted mittens for all, while you hold down a full time job and juggle soccer and PTA? Come on.”

I’ve been called Martha, but in reality I am far from it. I am blessed with a husband who does more laundry and dishes than I do. He’s vaccuumed more in the past 2 days than I have in weeks. I am the queen of piles. I can’t remember the last time I cleaned the tub. This is my craft area as of 4 minutes ago:

Inspiring, no?

Inspiring, no?

No one is perfect. And I need to stop barrading myself for not being so. There is no bread in my oven and my son sure as hell does not own anything from the Pottery Barn.

I did, however, start my Christmas cards a few nights ago. Here’s a sneak peak:

Cute, huh?

Cute, huh?

And no, it is not Martha of me to hand-make 80 Christmas cards…it is CRAFTY of me, and just plain obsessive.
