If I could ask God for a favor, just a small request….I would ask for one-tenth of the talent, imagination, motivation, skill and/or life force of Donna Downey.
Never heard of her? If you are not a scrapbook maven or rafter, I’m not surprised. But if you scrap or craft, no doubt you’ve seen her column in Simply Scrapbooks, been uber-inspired by her blog, or sat in awe while looking through her galleries and shops on website.
Donna is the type of scrapper/crafter I yearn to be: a true mixed media artist, manipulating paper, paint, ink and photos into albums, 3-D art and whatever else pops into that wonderful head of hers. I know I’m talented on some levels, but this lady takes the cake.
Well, anyway, the reason why I’m telling you this is because DONNA IS GOING TO BE IN LITTLE ROCK!!!!! Ahhhhh!!!!
She will be at Scrapbook Corner April 30-May 1 to teach four different workshops. You can see workshop descriptions and photos on their blog. Deadline to sign up for the classes is April 15. I hope to see some of you there!

How cute are these? Via Dollar Store Crafts, here’s an idea from fellow bento-maker WhiMSylove…salt shaker photo holders! Check out her tutorial here for the easy and cheap details.
This could be a cute and simple Valentine’s Day idea, either for photos or for little valentines for friends. Maybe fill the shakers with candy hearts or red hots? Oh, I feel some inspiration coming on….

Zinnia found on a morning walk
Remember the post I did last week about how much I love photography? I promised I would go out last weekend and try to just take pictures for fun. Well, I found a few minutes on a morning walk to snap some photos, before the kiddo took off down the hill on his scooter and had to be stopped.

i know it’s not really crafting, but i love, love, love photography. as you could tell by my last post, pictures and layouts are a passion. you should have seen myroom when i was a teenager; magazine ads and posters covered my walls. they ran like a wall paper border to all four corners.
my goal in the next six months is to get a decent, high quality camera. i’m such a novice; i don’t know what particular brand or type would be the best for me. my canon sure shot has been knocked around and dropped several times, but she has always been there for me. i have taken some great pictures, but i want more depth, clarity, emotion….
i have several friends that are wonderful amatuer photographers, one of which took my profile pics for the blog. one friend is a super big fan of the site i heart faces, and i have fallen in love with their weekly contests. their guest blogger this week is keli hoskins at twelve paws, and she wrote a great, informative and inspiring post on using flickr and flickr groups to improve your photography. two of my favorites she mentioned were the maternal lens (you have to be a member to see the pictures) and 52 weeks.
you might be thinking that the people in these groups are way better at photography than you, and honestly that’s what i thought too. but once i started looking around the sites i figured out where these ladies differed from me was that yes, their cameras were probably better than mine, but they see the same things i do…life! so take a moment and thumb through the photos and get inspired. challenge yourself this weekend to capture some of that life swirling all around you. i’ll be sure to share with you next week what i discovered.
